Early Literacies Programme
Literacy: A Lifelong Journey
Literacy is a lifelong journey that involves reading, writing, and numeracy skills. In early childhood, foundational literacies develop, shaping future learning and success. The structured literacy programme introduced in primary schools builds on these early skills, which include:
Nonverbal literacy
Understanding and expressing meaning through body language and interactions
Spoken literacy
Developing oral language skills, including speaking, listening, vocabulary, and comprehension
Written literacy
Recognising and using print, including phonological awareness and understanding written symbols
Children build these skills through play, social interactions, stories, songs, creative activities, and structured exercises woven into their daily routine in engaging and meaningful ways.

EverydayLiteracy
Early childhood teachers play a key role in fostering literacy development through everyday interactions. They encourage:
- Nonverbal communication – helping children express themselves through gestures, play, and social engagement
- Oral language skills – supporting listening, speaking, and comprehension
- Print awareness – introducing written symbols and their corresponding sounds
Families are also a child’s first teachers. Strong partnerships between educators and families help build on home literacy practices, creating a seamless learning experience between home and school.
Cultural andNew Literacies
Literacy is deeply connected to culture, identity, and belonging. Recognising and affirming different cultural practices helps children feel connected and valued in multiple cultural environments. At Early Learners, we celebrate the diverse backgrounds of our children and teachers, integrating cultural literacy into our daily practices. Beyond traditional literacy, children today engage with new literacies, such as:
- Media and digital literacy – understanding and using technology responsibly
- Financial literacy – grasping basic money concepts
- Emotional literacy – recognising and managing emotions
By fostering these skills early, we lay the foundation for successful lifelong learning.

I really like small sized daycare. I love the curriculum, the teachers and their teaching style. The ratio is excellent and the teachers are very attentive to each child. They know each child's personality well and always stay focused on them. I also appreciate how the programs are targeted to support age appropriate development, such as fine motor skills. It's been a wonderful experience.

August 2024Early Learners is the best decision I have made for my kids. The owner and teachers here are absolutely amazing. Always catering to the child's needs and helping parents out in whatever way possible. They genuinely wish to see families thrive and are extremely empathetic. The learning programs at the centre are very enjoyable, and my kids are constantly talking about it all!
